Barossa winery accommodation bid

A $1.2 MILLION boutique winery, cellar door and tourist accommodation development is proposed for Barossa Valley Way at Rowland Flat.

According to the development application to Barossa Council, submitted by Glovin Pty Ltd, a new 49-tonne winery and cellar door is proposed to be used in conjunction with the existing vineyard at 1887 Barossa Valley Way.

Two tourist accommodation suites, for up to six guests, are to be established in the existing heritage dwelling and outbuilding, accompanied by a new swimming pool and deck with views over the vineyards.

“The tourist accommodation will involve the adaptive reuse of existing local heritage buildings and will complement the winery, cellar door and agricultural use of the land, giving visitors an authentic Barossa experience,” the application reads.

“The entire proposal will be accommodated utilising existing buildings with the exception of a canopy addition to the winery building, cellar-door addition and guest amenities associated with the tourist accommodation.

“The proposed cellar door has been co-located with the existing buildings on the site (replacing a dilapidated dwelling addition) to limit its visual impact on the landscape, not interfere with the existing agricultural use of the land and showcase views of the existing vineyard.”

According to the proposal, Massena Wines, which has been established in the Barossa Valley since 2000, is seeking to expand its operations, processing grapes grown on and off the site with a capacity of up to 49 tonnes.

The cellar door will accommodate up to 140 guests and operate Monday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm.

Twenty-three new carparking spaces, including one accessible space, are planned for the site.

The application is out on notice via the Plan SA website until the end of Thursday, January 27.
